The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has welcomed the US military’s Christmas Day airstrikes in Nigeria’s North-West, calling it a “timely and necessary” move in the fight against terrorism. The group, led by Dr. Bitrus Pogu, urges the Nigerian government to extend the military offensive to other parts of the country where terrorists are operating.
Dr. Pogu praises the collaboration between Nigeria and the US, saying it’s a breakthrough after years of insecurity. “The airstrike is a very welcome development, and we thank God that the President gave assent to it,” he says.
The MBF President also calls for a broader approach, targeting terrorist sponsors and groups across the country. He condemns individuals like Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi for downplaying terrorist activities, saying it’s “treason” and shouldn’t be tolerated.
Dr. Pogu warns that terrorists may change tactics, dispersing into smaller cells, and advocates combining strategies to counter this. He urges authorities to expand the military action, targeting terrorists in all parts of Nigeria
